Robert Emery Jr. "Jack," Cummings, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946 and joined the USS Duluth in Shanghai as an Ensign. He married the love of his life, Catherine Longyear, on June 28, 1952. He was employed by Revere, Copper and Brass for 19 years and lived in Baltimore, Md., Atlanta, Ga. and Chappaqua, N.Y. He then joined Hitchiner Mfg. as the Vice President of Sales and moved with his family to Amherst, N.H. He retired after 20 years. Upon retiring, he and Catherine spent time at their homes in Naples, Fla. and Quechee, Vt., where he spent many hours on the golf course. They moved to Westminster Canterbury Retirement Home in 2007, where they both made wonderful friends and received outstanding care. Jack is survived by his three adoring children, Daniel (wife, Linda) of Boston, Mass., Stephen (wife, Karen) of Charlotte, N.C. and Mary Doswell (husband, John) of Richmond, Va.; and his sister, Rowena Spencer of Chicago, Ill. Nothing brought him more joy than his 14 loving grandchildren and 12 beautiful great-grandchildren that knew him as "Tops" and of whom he was so proud. He was an avid and accomplished golfer, shooting his age from the age of 70 to 90. He was a fierce competitor, dedicated Patriots and Navy fan and loved cheering on his children and grandchildren in any and all athletic events. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, in the Commons at Westminster Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation.
