Posted on 06/11/2019

Betty A. Lockwood  (March 7, 1926  -  June 8, 2019)

Betty Ann Lockwood passed away on June 8, 2019. She survived her husband, Douglas L. Lockwood, who passed in 2007 after 52 years of marriage.

Betty is survived by her four children:

Merri and Steve Crawley, Daughter and Son-in-law from Round Rock, TX.

Doug and Teresa Lockwood, Son and Daughter-in-law from Laurel, MD.

Beth and George Van Horn, Daughter and Son-in-law from Madison, MS.

John and Amy Lockwood, Son and Daughter-in-law from Las Vegas, NV.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren – John Crawley, Bridget Crawley, Nicole Gregory Jenkins, Roger Gregory and Chris Gregory.

As a young woman in New York City, Betty met and worked for prominent citizens. She interviewed at IBM for Thomas J Watson’s secretarial team (although would not work there because of the blue suit requirement!), assisted the I.M.Pei’s architectural team and had a date with Danny Kaye (a neighborhood boy).

Betty loved travelling- She was proud of visiting all 50 states and travelled to many foreign countries, France, Costa Rica and Bermuda to name a few. She met her husband, a young naval officer, in Venice Italy while touring with her Great Aunt.

Betty and Doug lived in New Jersey, Maryland, NY state, Florida and Texas. After moving from the East Coast to Texas 20 years ago, Betty entrenched herself in the Texas community. She enjoyed volunteering for the Round Rock Library, The Baca Senior Center and attended St. Williams Catholic Church. She participated in the Senior float as part of the Fourth of July parade, Daffodil Day and enjoyed leading the sittercize activities at the Baca Center. She made many friends at the Baca Center and was forever thankful for their friendship.

Betty family meant everything to her. She especially loved seeing her grandchildren grow into young adults and make a life of their own. She was proud of her children and loved them very much.

Betty’s remains will be laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Donations may be made to the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation in the name of Douglas and Betty Ann Lockwood, Class of ’52.
