After graduating from Park County High School in 1940, Jim proceeded to attend and graduate from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering; all of which he was extremely proud of and would share stories with anyone that would listen. Upon graduation in 1945 Jim took command of a ship in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. When asked why not stay in the Navy, he replied that the choice between the ocean or the mountains of Montana around Livingston; there was no question, he came home.

Upon returning home he joined the family business with his dad and brother, Pat. Jim and Jeanne were married in 1953 and together they raised six children. There was still enough love from this union that many foster children were welcomed into this family. Upon selling Fleming Bros. Grocery Store, Jim went into semi-retirement doing locksmithing jobs, building maintenance, and most of all being GRANDPA.

Fly fishing on the Yellowstone, camping at Big Creek, telling life’s stories, having a drink of Schnapps, or puffing on a cigar or pipe to keep the mosquitoes away were of enjoyment throughout his life.
