Robert William "Bob" Nichols (April 11, 1929 - April 26, 2019)
Robert William “Bob” Nichols, 90, of Hickory passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Kingston Residence.
Born April 11, 1929 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Daniel and Ruth Brooks Nichols. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Joan Flanagan Nichols and two brothers, Donald and Stanley Nichols.
Bob served in the US Navy and attended the US Naval Academy. He was the President of Centel of North Carolina, past President of Kiwanis, and Chairman of the Board of Salvation Army. Bob was a Nebraska football fan. As well, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball and midget league football.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Ann Nichols Mott and husband Donald of Hickory; his son, David Robert Nichols and wife Mary Katherine of Hickory; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Roger Nichols and wife Dorothy of Roanoke, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, April 29, 2019 in the chapel of Bass-Smith Funeral Home with Father Ed Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends prior to services from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
