Obituary (TX): Mrs. Kathryn (William C. Knodle '57)

Kathryn Knodle  (February 28, 1936 - February 11, 2019)

Kathryn “Katie” Knodle, 82, of Georgetown, passed away with her loving family at her side.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, 5404 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas with Dr. Bill Pederson officiating.

Katie was born in Corning, New York to Daniel Braught and Ethel Lenora (Morse) Luce on February 28, 1936.  After completing high school, Katie graduated from State University of New York with her Bachelor of Arts Degree.  She did her post graduate work at the University of Maryland, Hawaii, Mississippi and California. She taught kindergarten through high school in New York, Maryland, California, Mississippi and the Panama Canal Zone due to her husband, Bill’s, many career moves.

Katie and Bill were married on December 20, 1958 in Painted Post, New York.  They became the proud parents of two daughters, Amy and Lisa.

Katie’s teaching career took her to Corning, New York and Coco Solo Elementary School in the Panama Canal Zone.  She volunteered, again using her wonderful teaching skills, at Fort Washington, Maryland and at Village and Ford Elementary Schools in Georgetown, Texas.

In addition to Katie’s teaching career, she was a volunteer for many organizations and gave generously of her time to the American Red Cross at Andrews Air Force Base Hospital, Keesler AFB Hospital and Tripler Army Hospital, Hawaii.  In Monterey, California, Katie was a faithful Girl Scout Leader.

Bill and Katie attended many churches because of his military career.  Those included a life-long membership in the USA Presbyterian Church. However, they also attended Methodist, Lutheran and Mission Churches.  Katie was active and faithful as a Sunday School Teacher, Teen Youth Director, Vacation Bible School Director, Choir Member and Soloist.

Katie enjoyed her memberships in various organizations including several Navy Wives Clubs, Diamondhead Garden Club in Mississippi, Friends of the Georgetown Symphony Society (FOGGS) and Senior University in Georgetown.

Survivors include the following: loving husband of 60 years, Bill Knodle, of Georgetown; daughters, Amy L. FitzGerald and her husband, Michael P. FitzGerald, Sr. of Georgetown, and Lisa J. Knodle-Bragiel and her husband Carl Knodle-Bragiel of Amity, Oregon; granddaughter, Erin Colleen FitzGerald of Spring, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Jan Knodle of Port Ludlow, Washington; sister-in-law Elizabeth Knodle and brother-in-law Clifton Knodle of Kettering, Ohio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Laurie Fausett and Rosemary Knodle Fausett of Sacramento, California.

Katie was preceded in death by her father and mother and brother-in-law, Robert Knodle.

The family requests that memorials be made in Katie’s name to: The Nest, which is GISD’s after-school haven for homeless students, AKA “The Georgetown Project”; First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown Music Department; San Gabriel Presbyterian Church of Georgetown Music Department; or The Caring Place.
