Obituary (VA): Brian Arthur Arndt '64

Posted on 03/11/2019

Brian Arthur Arndt of Henrico, VA died on March 7, 2019 (age 76).

Brian passed peacefully after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his wife, children, and special loved ones. A blanket made by his children covered him, filled with pictures of many happy memories and years of life, and prayers and songs comforted our hearts.

He was a United States Naval Academy graduate of the class of 1964, 14th company, and a Harvard Business School graduate of the class of 1985. He marched in both JFK’s inauguration and funeral.

Throughout his life, Brian was reliable, trustworthy, patriotic, and dedicated to all his endeavors. He was spiritual and guided by integrity and honor. Brian was exceptionally intelligent, fun, and loving. Humility taught by life gave him amazing compassion and warmth.

He loved time with family and friends more than anything, but also enjoyed travel, reading, golf, the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, Navy football and the Virginia Cavaliers- Go Hoos! He was an excellent cook - the Master Griller - and tended to a beautiful garden, always opening his doors to make everyone feel welcome and at ease in his home.

His smile, his beautiful eyes, his warm heart-filled hugs, his laugh, and his rich and full commitment to all those he loved will be missed most of all.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Martha (Gerhard) Arndt, and Father, Arthur Joseph Arndt. He has also returned home to his beloved daughter, Jennifer (Arndt) Howell.

Brian is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cindy (Heenan) Arndt; children Michelle Coppenger (husband Steve), Michael Arndt, Mary Ann Terra-Nova (husband Jeff), and Jessica Arndt; grandchildren Abbey, Matthew, Lexi, and Anna; sisters Mary Ann Phillips and Linda Hollister; and many dear nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family will receive friends at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (9505 Gayton Rd., Richmond, VA 23229) from 9:30-11AM on Monday, March 18, 2019, followed by Mass at 11AM. Later, Brian will be at rest in the St. Mary’s Columbarium and garden.
