Obituary (TX): Paul William Kerr Jr. '55

(August 02, 1930 --January 01, 2019) Paul William Kerr, Jr., age 88 of Temple, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in a local hospital.  No services are planned.  Mr. Kerr was born on August 2, 1930 in Elkhart, Indiana to Anne Park Kerr and Paul W. Kerr, Sr.  He attended Elkhart schools until age 14.  He graduated from Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri in 1948.  Paul attended Dartmouth College for a year, then joined the U.S. Navy.  He was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in 1950.  He resigned in 1951 and finished his education at the University of Maine in Orono, graduating with honors and Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. In 1952, he married Jane Quint whom he met while at Dartmouth.  They had five children:  Stephen, Darcy, Scott, Brad and Angela. Paul worked at American Steel & Wire in Worcester, Massachusetts; then at Acme Steel in Harvey Illinois.  He then became president of Howell Corporation in St. Charles, Illinois; followed by president of American Desk Manufacturing in Temple, Texas.  While in Temple, Paul was, at various times, chairman of the Texas Association of Business (twice); President of Temple Rotary; Chairman of Temple Chamber of Commerce; and Chairman of Temple's centennial celebration.  Jaycees voted him "Outstanding Man of the Year" in 1982.  He also served on numerous boards. Retiring in 1995, Paul and his wife, Jane, enjoyed life on their ranch in Belton, Texas.  He is survived by his wife, Jane Quint Kerr of Temple, children, Stephen Dana Kerr of Britt, MN, Darcy Ann Cogdell of Sherwood, Arkansas, Scott Wilder Kerr of Morrison, CO, Bradley Nathan Kerr of College Station, Texas and Angela Jane Kerr Alexieff of Bowling Green, KY, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family requests contributions to one of the following non-profit organizations in lieu of flowers:  St. Joseph's Indian School, P.O.
