Obituary (AR): Donald Arthur Kuhlman '50

Donald A. Kuhlman, 91, formerly of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully on December 29, 2018. Don was born in Forest Hills, NY. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps during WWII. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1950 with a degree in electrical engineering. Don served in the Navy during and after the Korean War. He lived in Towson, MD while working at Bendix and ACF Electronics. As the Information Age arrived, Don moved to Shrewsbury; hired by McGraw-Hill to oversee their Information Retrieval Products; leased to the growing number of defense and space age companies. As their manager of product planning, he utilized the most advanced techniques then available in the computer, microfilm, printing, indexing, and software development fields. Returning to his roots, he started Ask Information Systems Inc., a 25-year successful undertaking. Retiring to FL, he was active in the U.S. Coast Guard Aux, Flot. 96 based at Wiggins Pass, Naples. He spent time as a volunteer, teaching ESL for the Literacy Council and at the Our Lady of Light Church. Don loved visiting with his family and hearing about their adventures. He was an avid writer and wrote stories about his life. Don was predeceased by his wife and loving partner of 53 years, Anne (nee Schanberger). Surviving are his sons, Donald Jr. and Michael; daughters, Patricia, Joanne, Jane and Elizabeth; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Madeline Fitzgerald of FL. Don will be deeply missed; a private memorial is planned in the future.
