It is with great sadness that the family of Leona S. Zimmerman and Robert W. Zimmerman announce their passing. Leona (Nana) passed away, after an extended illness, on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at the age of 77. Robert (Papa) passed away shortly thereafter, from a broken heart, on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the age of 86. The gentleman in him wanted to accompany the love of his life to Heaven. Robert graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1956 and served as a commissioned officer until 1961. He met his beloved Leona through friends and married her on May 23, 1964. After the Navy, Robert went on to work for Honeywell, Inc. in the Aerospace and Defense Industry. Leona went on to become a talented artist and tennis player. She was a devoted wife and mother. Robert and Leona retired initially to Pineriver, Minnesota, on Lake Whitefish. They later moved to Heritage Pines golf community in Hudson, Florida, where they remained until their passing. They will be lovingly remembered by daughter, Heidi (David); son, Scott (Christine); and grandchildren, Hayley, Daniel, Brian, and Emma. A Funeral Service in memory of Robert and Leona will be held in the Spring, at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They will be buried next to their first-born son, Robb Andrew.
