Capt. H. Neal McGough USN (Ret.) died December 18, 2018 in Birmingham. He was 97. Born October 30, 1921 in Fayette, AL he entered the US Naval Academy in 1940, graduating in 1943 in the accelerated wartime program. After leaving the Navy he joined the Reserves and retired in 1973. He married Doris Elizabeth Hickman on May 19, 1945 and attended Auburn University earning a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He spent his career working for Covington Planter. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn McGough Brooks and son-in-law, Tom J. Brooks; son, Michael McGough; daughter-in-law, Cynthia McGough all of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Jonas Brooks (Angela) of Alamogordo, NM, Laura Brooks Bright (David) of Birmingham, AL, Neal McGough (Courtney) of Blytheville, AR, and Elizabeth McGough Bowers (Chase) of Fort Mill, SC; and five great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate, Madeline, Brooks and Harper. A private family remembrance will take place December 26, 2018 in Birmingham, AL. Interment will take place at the Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Auburn University's Dept. of Biosystems Engineering.
