Obituary (TN): Frederick Samuel Rowe III '65

Frederick S. Rowe III  (December 20, 1943 - November 23, 2018)

On Friday, November 23rd, 2018, Heaven welcomed another angel, Frederick S. Rowe III, 74, of Eads, TN. Joyously, Fred was reunited with his father Frederick and mother Ruth. Fred was raised in Bloomfield, NJ. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1965 and his first duty assignment was Main Propulsion Assistant (MPA) on the USS Brumby (DE 1044). He later served as Damage Control Officer on the USS Schofield (DEG 3) and Engineer Officer on USS John R. Pierce (DD 753). After leaving the Navy, he enjoyed a successful career in industry and started a family. Fred’s hobbies included gardening, scuba diving, stained glass, traveling to all 50 states and internationally, and photography. He was also a pack leader to many dogs through the years.

Fred is survived by his loving wife Bessie of Eads, TN and cherished sister Terry Peck and husband Thomas of Beachwood, NJ. Also surviving are his adored children: John Rowe and wife Julia, Paul Rowe, Becky Wilburn and husband Perry, and Rachel Sanders; and his grandchildren: Allison, Kami, Ashley, and Lacey; and his great-grandchildren: Grayson, Garrett, and Ethan. He loved his family above all else.

He was predeceased by his parents Frederick Rowe Jr and Ruth Elaine Fielding Rowe.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Saturday, December 15th, with services celebrating his life following at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the United States Naval Academy Take-A-Seat program (www.facebook.com/donate/927693200763307). His name will be permanently inscribed on a plate affixed to a seat at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium where he can forever watch Academy games and “sing last”.
