Obituary (PA): Mrs. Dolores (Joseph J. Gawarkiewicz III '57)

Dolores A. (Gleba) Gawarkiewicz, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 after a long, hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Dolores was born on August 24, 1936 in Staten Island, NY. She attended Notre Dame Academy of Staten Island, NY. After high school, she spent time attending classes at Fordham University and working at a Wall Street law firm. She then married Joseph Gawarkiewicz, also of Staten Island and spent the next 24 years as a Navy Wife.  She and her family traveled widely including stints in Bangkok, Thailand; London, England; Gulfport, MS; Newport, RI; Burke, VA and Annapolis, MD. She was active in Navy related activities volunteering for Navy Relief in Gulfport, MS, and the Naval Academy Gift Shop in Annapolis, MD. She had a wonderful knack for interior decorating and was able to set up their home within days after each family move. When her husband retired from the United States Navy in 1982, they moved to Princeton, NJ and later to Island Heights, NJ where Dolores was active in the Garden Club and participated in the annual Island Heights House Tour. Dolores will be most remembered for her pointed sense of humor and her timeless sense of style. Joe and Dolores spent time in Philadelphia, PA before moving to Lancaster, PA where they spent the last five years in the Willow Valley Communities surrounded by both old and new friends. She is survived by Joseph J. Gawarkiewicz, her husband of 61 years; son, Glen, and his wife, Connie of N. Falmouth, MA and daughter, Marlene Jane and her husband ,Martin of Philadelphia, PA. She was a warm and active presence in the lives of her five grandchildren, Ellen, Thomas, Gwen, Delia and Teddy. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Gleba and her parents, Joseph F. and Jeannette E. (Kuberski) Gleba. The Funeral Arrangements are pending. Kindly omit flowers.
