Donald W. Walter (1933 - 2018)
Donald W. Walter, 85, of Ormond Beach, Florida, died peacefully in his home on 9 November 2018 surrounded by his family. Born in Chicago in 1933, Donald graduated from the US Naval Academy (Class of 1955) before serving on the USS Permit, USS Woodrow Wilson and in the Reserves until 1974. An avid golfer with a Hole-in-One on a TPC course, Don moved to Ormond Beach with his wife and partner, the former Velva Robbins in 2011 from Alexandria, Virginia. An engineer by education, Don taught nuclear physics and later served as the CEO of DAI & Associates -- a cost estimation ship design and construction company that helped to launch dozens of vessels for the US Navy and NATO nations. Don had five children -- Laura (d. 2007), Linda, Donald Jr., Lisa and Derek; twenty grand-children; and, five great-grandchildren. Services will be held in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 W. Granada Blvd., on Tuesday, 13 November 2018 at 10:30AM.
