Susan Carole Balsillie Oehler (Mar. 6, 1944 - Sept. 8, 2018)
Susan Carole Oehler lost her brief battle with breast cancer September 8, 2018. She passed away peacefully with her husband of 51 years at her side. She was 74.
Born in Leicestershire, England, Susan was the second of four children to Donald and Joyce Balsillie, and their only daughter. She and her family emigrated to the United States by way of Toronto, Canada and eventually settled in Long Beach, California.
Susan was a 1962 graduate of Millikan High School and a 1967 graduate of Cal State Long Beach, earning a BA in Home Economics. That same year, she married John Oehler, also a Long Beach resident and a US Naval Academy graduate, class of 1964.
The two started their family in Southern California before eventually moving to Moraga in the Bay Area in 1977.
Susan was a loving wife to John, mother to Andy (Suzanne), Alex (Crista), and Adam. She was proud grandmother to Harrison, Ian, Everett, Hailey, and Griffin. Her thoughtful and caring nature, quick wit, and ready smile are missed beyond words.
