Obituary (AR): Joel Davis Patterson '55

Mr. Joel Davis Patterson, age 85, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, February 2, 2018. He was a member of the Bella Vista Church of Christ. He left this life peacefully at home with family by his side. Joel was born in Oxford, Arkansas on March 25, 1932. He grew up in Little Rock, where he graduated from Little Rock Central High. Like many growing up during his generation, the naval victories of WW II inspired him to serve as a naval officer in defense of his county. He subsequently received a congressional nomination to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1955. Serving 10 years in the Navy, most of them as a submariner, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander before leaving to return to his beloved Arkansas. He became an engineer with Arkansas Power and Light in Little Rock, where he worked for 14 years before taking a position to manager the Environmental Division for Middle South Utilities (now Entergy) in New Orleans, LA. He retired 12 years later to Rogers, Arkansas to enjoy his retirement close to family. Before the onset of Alzheimer's deprived him of a full life, Joel enjoyed various intellectual pursuits, golf, fishing, Bible study, and making improvements to whatever home in which he made a life for his family. Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, Davis and Vera PattersonMr. Patterson is survived by his loving wife of 61 and a half years, Rosalyn, his brothers Jim of Houston, TX and Charles of Louisa, VA, his three sons, Jim of Baton Rouge, LA, Jeff of Tulsa, OK, Jon of Huntsville, AL his daughter Jerri and her husband Dallas of Rogers, six grandchildren, Chris and Chad Dobbs and Tori Dobbs Hunt, and Jared, Wesley, and Rosalyn Patterson, his four great-grandchildren, Callum, Meira, Mailee Dobbs, and Sydni HuntJoel's family wishes to thank the caregivers at Rogers Mercy Hospital and Circle of Life Hospice. A memorial service will be held February 12, 2018 at Bella Vista Church of Christ, 989 NW McNelly Road Bella Vista, Arkansas with Mr. Randall Caselman officiating a private burial will follow.
