Obituary (PA): James William Foster '64

James William Foster, 76, of Ephrata passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He was born in Long Branch, NJ to the late John W. Foster, Jr. and Ruth Ackerson Foster, and was the husband of Alice E. Weinhold Foster, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Scott G. Foster, husband of Kate; a daughter, Kristin A. Foster, as well as a grandson, Thomas G. Foster. He graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School and the United States Naval Academy. Following graduation from Naval Nuclear Power and Submarine School, he served on the USS Alexander Hamilton. After almost 22 years of service, he retired as a captain from the Naval Reserves. Jim was a professional engineer and worked at Corning Glass Works, Gilbert Associates, United Energy Services, and RPA Engineering. He was an active member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Adopt-a-Kid/Adopt-a-Vet program. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years and had been a member of SCORE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ephrata Area Social Services, Meals on Wheels program, 227 North State Street, Ephrata, PA, 17522 or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) at www.dav.org. A private service will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements by Stradling Funeral Homes, Inc., Akron/Ephrata.
