Navy Ends Losing Streak, Beats VMI 51-14
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - After three losses in a row, Navy was ready to accept any sort of win headed into a bye week.

Overmatched VMI proved to be just the opponent Navy needed as Tago Smith ran for a score and passed for another, Noah Copeland scored on a run and a pass, and Navy's defense chipped in nine points, as the Midshipmen routed the Keydets 51-14 on Saturday.

Men's Soccer withstands Navy in Thrilling Contest

The Boston University men's soccer team opened up Patriot League play Saturday with a 2-0 win against the United States Naval Academy at Nickerson Field.

Doughty Leads Western Kentucky over Navy , 36-27

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Even though Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds ran for 121 yards with a pair of touchdowns, he was quick to take the all the blame for the Midshipmen's performance against Western Kentucky.
Brandon Doughty completed 38 of 54 passes for 387 yards with two touchdowns to lead the Hilltoppers to a 36-27 victory over the Midshipmen on Saturday.

Smith '17 subs In, Leads Navy Past Texas State 35-21

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - Playing without the leader of its offense put a scare in Navy, but Tago Smith quickly put those fears to rest with a stellar outing in his first career start.

QB Reynolds '16 Receives Clean Bill Of Health; Junior Star Expected To Play Saturday Against Texas State

Navy starting quarterback Keenan Reynolds has been given a clean bill of health and should be able to start Saturday night at Texas State, head coach Ken Niumatalolo said after practice Monday.
Reynolds underwent an MRI on Monday to determine whether there was damage to his right knee, which absorbed a blow from a defender's helmet during Saturday's game at Temple. USNA Glee Club Performs at NFL Monday Night Opener

DETROIT (NNS) -- The U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) Men's and Women's Glee Club performed during the opening ceremonies of the first Monday Night Football game of the 2014 National Football League season at Ford Field in Detroit, Sept 8.

Mids Bringing a Fresh Approach to Trenches; Seven Players to Rotate in at Offensive Line Positions

The way Ashley Ingram looks at it, the Navy football team has seven starting offensive linemen.

Reynolds '16 leads Navy over Temple

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - With a 300-pound lineman rumbling toward the end zone for a game-tying touchdown, Navy's defense came up with its biggest stop.
Keenan Reynolds ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns and Chris Johnson recovered Brendan McGowan's lateral at the 10 to help the Midshipmen hold on for a 31-24 victory over Temple on Saturday.

Women's soccer face non-conference opponents

Though it's still early in the season, JMU women's soccer is generating a buzz on the national level. The Dukes entered their matchup against the Naval Academy on Friday evening nationally ranked, but after losing to Navy the most recent polls haven't been released.

This summer a group of 18 U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen worked as guides, or interpreters, at Northern Tier, a Boy Scout High Adventure base in northern Minnesota.

Navy SEALs Swimming for Sunshine

CASCO -- Character, mental toughness and discipline are the traits four Navy SEALs will use to swim 13 miles in Sebago Lake on Thursday morning to raise awareness and funds for Camp Sunshine.

Brown gets a kick out of returner role; Navy Notebook

Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo hasn't worried about Navy's kickoff return specialist for a while. Marcus Thomas handled the role capably for the past four years, setting a new standard along the way.
Thomas graduated as Navy's all-time leader with 2,338 career kickoff return yards. The 5-foot-7, 165-pound speedster also set a program record with 104 career returns, averaging 22.4 yards.

Allentown's Jonas '17 Places 12th at National Rifle Competition

Rifle sharpshooter Dan Jonas of Allentown finished 12th overall at the National Rifle Association (NRA) National Smallbore event on July 19-20 at Bristol, Ind. The event is the highest level of NRA competition in the nation.

Mabus, Greenert to speak at Naval Academy change of command ceremony July 23

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus will speak in Annapolis next week as the Naval Academy gets a new superintendent.
The academy said Thursday Mabus will speak at Wednesday's change of command ceremony, where Vice Adm. Walter E. "Ted" Carter Jr. will formally relieve Vice Adm. Michael H. Miller as superintendent.
Navy Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert, chief of naval operations, also will speak at the event.

Cyber Building One Step Closer to Construction

Rockport ready to host Navy visitors
Rockport is once again ready to roll out its welcome mat for the annual Rockport Navy Weekend when students of the United States Naval Academy visit the seaside town beginning today.
The Offshore Sail Training Squadron, aboard four NA-44 foot sailboats, will drop anchor today in Rockport Harbor. Renata Bucher '16 has been named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

NAVY WOMEN'S GOLF: Renata Bucher has been named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. Bucher is one of 664 women's collegiate golfers from Division I, II & III that received the accolade.

Hospice officials unveil Veteran Tribute Wall; Photos document Honor Salute by mids

Hospice of the Chesapeake unveiled its Veteran Tribute Wall on Thursday.
The Tribute Wall at the Pasadena building features 23 canvas-mounted, black-and-white photographs. Most of the photos depict dying veterans in hospital beds being saluted by a midshipman or another member of the U.S. military.
The veterans were receiving palliative care at the Hospice.

Carter '81 takes over July 23 at the Naval Academy; Record-setting aviator was a 1981 graduate

Vice Adm. Walter E. "Ted" Carter Jr. will formally relieve Vice Adm. Michael H. Miller as superintendent of the Naval Academy during a change-of-command ceremony scheduled July 23, academy officials said Thursday.
Carter, who until this month was head of the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., is a 1981 graduate of the academy and a record-setting naval aviator.

Northrop Grumman Corp. recently presented the 2014 Elmer Sperry Junior Navigator of the Year Award for 2014 to Midshipman Robert Francisco Yerkes-Medina in ceremonies at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Stell '16 Places Third In Javelin At NCAA Track and Field Championship
EUGENE, Ore. – Navy men’s track and field sophomore Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) finished third overall in javelin at the NCAA Championship Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Stell is the fourth Navy men’s track and field student-athlete to garner All-America status in the javelin.

The Martinez children didn't grow up in a military family.

Purple Heart Recipient Graduates with Naval Academy Class of 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (NNS) -- Marine 2nd Lt. Jefferson Talicuran, of San Diego, California, is one of more than 1,000 new officers who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, May 23.

Memorial Day parade awes crowd in city
Children pushed for a seat on the curb, their parents either beside them or a step behind, the moment the Annapolis Memorial Day parade proceeded down West Street at 10:02 a.m.

NAVAL ACADEMY CLASS OF 2017 TO PARTICIPATE IN HERNDON MONUMENT CLIMB
 
WHEN: Event begins at 1:30 pm, Monday, May 19.
WHAT: Each year, the roughly 1,000 members of the academy's plebe (freshman) class form a human pyramid around the 21-foot tall Herndon Monument to remove a plebe hat, or "dixie cup," that upperclassmen have placed on the top of the obelisk monument which is covered in lard. The midshipman who makes it to the top then replaces the “dixie cup” with a midshipman's hat.  This event is open to the public and widely attended.

Traffic delays likely during Comm Week
ANNAPOLIS - Motorists can expect traffic delays on Tuesday and Wednesday during the Blue Angels' flights and again next Friday for the Naval Academy graduation ceremony.

City officials say residents should expect red lights when the Blue Angels fly over Annapolis this week.
 
The "Blues," the U.S. Navy's flight demonstration team, will be flying over the Severn River between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday and between 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday - the first time for their rehearsal, the second time for their performance.

Herndon memories: Naval Academy mids reflect on climbing the monument
His white dress pants and matching socks were trashed. 
Orange grease has a way of leaving a stain, especially when it's mixed with sweat from climbing a 21-foot obelisk.

Navy Blue Angels to return to Annapolis May 20-21
After three years away from Annapolis, the Blue Angels will return to the city next week.
The U.S. Navy's flight demonstration squadron will fly a team of six Navy F/A-18 Hornets over the Severn River on May 20 and 21.
The Blue Angels will perform circle and arrival maneuvers between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 20. Their official performance will be between 2 and 4 p.m. on May 21, the Naval Academy announced Monday.

A final salute; Naval Academy midshipmen pay their respects to veterans who are nearing the end of life
Richard Harryman was wearing a crisp blue shirt for the occasion, and his hospital bed was in the living room.
There were punch and cookies on a table in the hall, and family and friends were waiting when a car arrived carrying four midshipmen.

Allentown rifleman Jonas ['17] excels in first year at Navy
Dan Jonas of Allentown has left a lasting first impression as a plebe on the United States Naval Academy rifle team, ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Naval Academy breaks ground on new clinic
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The U.S. Naval Academy has broken ground on a new $41 million health clinic.
The Capital of Annapolis reports (http://bit.ly/RymIzJ ) officials broke ground for the clinic Friday, and the new building is expected to be finished as early as November 2015. Mids at home in the Rose Garden; President Obama presents Navy football team with Commander-in-Chief's Trophy for the ninth time in 11 years
President Barack Obama stepped through a doorway that opened onto the Rose Garden as casually as if he were getting some fresh air out on the patio.
Alone, without any security personnel or aides, the president walked nonchalantly toward a podium where the entire Navy football team was gathered. Seated on the lawn were numerous dignitaries and Naval Academy supporters.

USNA fourth in cyber war exercise
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The U.S. Military Academy won a cyber warfare competition this week among the service academies.
The annual Cyber Defense Exercise tested which of the five service academies could create a computer network that would best withstand a four-day barrage of attacks devised by experts at the National Security Agency.

Mids trying to identify starting strong safety
Due partly to cancelling four practices in the wake of the Will McKamey tragedy, Navy has not made much progress toward finding a new starter at strong safety.
Wave Ryder was the season-long starter at the position that is termed "Rover" in defensive coordinator Buddy Green's 3-4 scheme. LAX: Navy edged by No. 1 Loyola
It's not often in sports that the losing coach feels uplifted while the winning coach is somewhat disappointed.
However, that was certainly the case on Saturday after top-ranked Loyola escaped Annapolis with a 7-6 double-overtime men's lacrosse victory over Navy.

Sports Watch: Duvall ['15] reaches new heights for Navy
DOVER -- Durham's Tom Duvall became just the third male swimmer at the U.S. Naval Academy in the last four decades to earn All-America honors in an individual event.
The former Oyster River High School standout finished seventh in the final of the 500 freestyle at NCAA championships last Thursday in Austin, Texas.
Duvall, a sophomore, was seeded 14th in the event with a qualifying time of 4 minutes, 15.86 seconds, which was also the Navy and Patriot League record.

Funeral arrangements have been set for the Navy football player who died on Tuesday at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Coma not caused by contact; Hit not source of McKamey's brain injury, parents write
The brain injury Navy slotback Will McKamey suffered Saturday in Annapolis came during a noncontact practice drill, his parents wrote in an email distributed by an athletic department spokesman at the academy Monday.
McKamey, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., was airlifted from the practice field to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery and, as of Monday, remained in critical condition in a coma.

Navy player collapses on field during practice, remains in critical condition
Navy football player Will McKamey remained in critical condition at the University of Maryland Medical Center on Monday morning, two days after he collapsed and suffered a brain injury during spring practice.
McKamey underwent cranial surgery on Saturday afternoon at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore to reduce swelling and bleeding on his brain. Midshipman chooses judge to decide case
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Naval Academy says a student accused of sexually assaulting a classmate during an off-campus party has elected to have a judge decide his case, rather than a military jury.

21Aug13-The Naval Academy Aquatic Club finished second at the Maryland State Long-Course Championships held at St. Mary's College.

3rd annual Freedom Classic underway in Kinston

Navy Men Win Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship

Patriot League Indoor Championship at Army's Gillis Field House this weekend
