Through the years, there have been numerous focused fundraising efforts that benefited the Naval Academy. Since 1848, when alumni raised funds to erect a monument commemorating four midshipmen killed in the Mexican War, gifts valued at millions of dollars from alumni and friends have assisted in the growth and development of the Academy. As the Naval Academy has grown in stature, so has the need for private gift support. While Federal appropriations continue to fund the Academy’s core program, private funds are essential to the strategic advancement of a dynamic learning environment that fully prepares midshipmen for service in an increasingly complex world.
To that end, the United States Naval Academy Foundation is dedicated to supporting an enduring culture of philanthropy among alumni, parents, and friends of the Academy. Private gifts support the full spectrum of programs and facilities that develop midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically in preparation for service to the Nation. The Foundation also supports an active Alumni Association by funding programs that inform and engage the Association’s members.
