In Memoriam: ADM Sylvester Foley Jr. ’50, USN (Ret.)

Distinguished graduate ADM Sylvester “Bob” Foley Jr. ’50, USN (Ret.), died on 31 December at the age of 91.

ADM Foley’s 35-year Navy career culminated with his service as Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet. He later served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy for Defense Programs under President Ronald Reagan before beginning a business career with Raytheon. He was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the Naval Academy in 2012.

ADM Foley is survived by his wife Ellen, four children, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Three of his children and grandchildren are Naval Academy graduates.
