Virgil W. Moore, Jr., RAdm., USN(Ret), 80, of Coronado , CA , died 16 July 2008 after a long illness. Joining the US Army in 1946, he later served in Germany . He was a member of the 8th Company, and graduated from the US Naval Academy in the Class of 1952. He was designated as an aviator in 1953, and became a fighter pilot. His piloting was interrupted by tours at the US Naval Postgraduate School, and the Air Command and Staff College , at Maxwell AFB, AL . He was designated an aviation engineering duty officer in 1965, serving in various aviation logistic support billets. His highlights of service included commander of the Naval Air Rework Facility, Alameda , CA , and selection to flag rank in 1981. Upon retirement, Didi and he traveled extensively, participating in community activities, and catching up on the activities of their children and grandchildren. He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Didi; his sons Wayne of Carmel, IN, Mike of Jacksonville, FL, his daughter, Deborah of Denver, CO and their families, grandchildren; Wayne, Jr., Cara, Cole, Jeffrey, and Laura; nieces and nephews; and, sister-in law Barbara. A memorial service will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church,  1114 Ninth St. (at C Ave ) in Coronado at 11:00 AM on Saturday, 2 August 2008. Interment will at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery . Contributions may be made to San Diego Hospice or the Christ Episcopal Church.
