Last update 11/19/08
Bannister, Michael E.--6/29/07--Resigned in '89 and been in the medical equipment field for the entire time I have been out of the Navy with great success. Sales of lab instruments and operating room specialty supplies. Married to Sharon since 1991 and have two kids Harrison, 14 and Austin 12. We now live and have for the past five years in the Atlanta area but frequent my old stomping grounds of Charleston as I have a sister there and love the place. Eight years in Frederick, MD prior to that about 2 miles from Hood College. We get up to the Annapolis area one or two times a year for ball games (have had my season tickets for about 10 years now 40 yard line 16 rows up) and the occasional A-N game. Looking forward to seeing all the guys and gals at the reunion!

Denham, Paul--10/31/05--I'm still living in Charleston and working for IBM in NY (telecommuter). Navy-wise, I'm now stationed at the Navy Yard in D.C. as the NAVSEA Reserve Director for Law Enforcement, Physical Security, Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection (LEPS AT/FP). I've run into various classmates over the past year at NAVSEA - CDR Matt Cissell, USN (Ret.); CAPT Dave Johnson, USN; CAPT Mike Fierro. I've seen Bill Rempe and John Shatto in airports while traveling and Russ Janicke, Rick Stein, Ben Moody, Mike Cortese, and Mike Bannister during their visits to Charleston. Still single and loving life! Dragging my current girl to this week's Homecoming (Nov 2005) so I hope to see more of you in Annapolis! 6/3/02--I’m living in Charleston, working for IBM, still in the Reserves (Millington, TN at PERS-9). Haven’t seen any of our classmates in TN but I ran into a few during my last tour in Norfolk at COMSUBLANT.

Rempe, William H.--6/15/02-- I signed up for an alumni email address, so anyone should be able to reach me forever at WILLIAM.REMPE@1982.USNA.COM After a tour in VFA-86 I got out of the Navy in Feb of '90 and am now a Delta pilot living in Atlanta. I checked out as Captain on the MD-88 last year, but with the trouble the airlines have been having since September I've been trying to hang on to my seat and am about 30 numbers away from being bumped back to First Officer. My wife Valerie and I got married a few years back, and have two wonderful additions to our family: a 3 year old daughter named Amelia, and a 5 month old baby girl named Anneliese. We are planning to make it to homecoming (with or without kids) and we're looking forward to seeing everyone there. I run into Jon Shatto at work occasionally - he lives in Peachtree City (south of Atlanta), and he is doing his best to propagate the species with 7 little Shattos running around. That's all for now, see y'all in September!

Soule, Ralph Thomas - - 3/25/2007 I am still on active duty. I am a captain and my current assignment is Commander U.S. Naval Air Forces, San Diego CA (CNAF). I am the Assistant Chief of Staff for Ship Materiel, responsible for the life cycle maintenance of everything on the ship that does not fly off. Our part of the staff supervises all aircraft carrier ship maintenance for West coast aircraft carriers. The ships are: Kitty Hawk (Japan), Nimitz, John C. Stennis, Ronald Reagan (San Diego), Abraham Lincoln (Everett, WA), and Carl Vinson (in refueling overhaul in Newport News, VA). My orders "say" we will be in San Diego for 30 months, but I have also been told I may be chosen for a new position in the summer of 2008 (either in Bremerton or Norfolk areas). My new job requires more traveling than the old one, with frequent trips to Washington D.C., Norfolk VA, and Bremerton. Occasionally I will go to Japan - just went there in Dec.
Since graduating from the Naval Academy in 1982 (and marrying Pam Powers, SJHS class of 77), I have had a series of Navy assignments in many locations, among them:
-
- Ships: Frigates (one decomm'd), a nuclear Cruiser (decomm'd), and aircraft carriers
-
- Locations: Japan, San Diego, Long Beach, Orlando, Idaho Falls, Seattle (Bremerton actually), Norfolk VA, Hawaii, and Boston MA
We have two sons, Bryan and Beau. Beau is thriving in eighth grade at Coronado Middle School and is able to ride his bike (about eight blocks away) to school each day.
Bryan attends the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL. He is majoring in History.
My specialty (for now) is repairing and maintaining nuclear aircraft carriers.
Last year we thought that we would be staying in Hawaii (I was the Shipyard Operations Officer) until summer 2007, but the Navy had different plans and I quickly (about eight weeks from notification to moving) found out that my "new" plan was to move from my job at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard to Coronado before Thanksgiving.
While moving is never easy, we did have the opportunity to spend a few days on Ford Island (not a Navy airfield any more) and spent our last two days on the island at the Hale Koa military resort hotel, the first place we stayed when we arrived in 2004. Everything else was a blur.
Our time in Hawaii passed before we knew it, but we did manage to see some beautiful sights. We were able to take trips to Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai while we were there. We also learned a few things that many people might not know:
-
- McDonalds serves rice with their breakfast. You can also get taro filled pies (not very tasty)
-
- Amazing as it sounds, you can also get Spam with your breakfast. My younger son Beau developed a taste for it.
Coronado has significant advantages over places we have lived in San Diego before (especially no traffic). We live just two blocks from the beach and it has a very small town-like culture. Since we are only renting, the ridiculously high property values are not a problem.
We have a new web site (www.soulefamily.org) and will occasionally be putting pictures there, when I get time to set it up properly.
Pam's year was about leaving friends that she made in Hawaii, but happy to move back to CA and being able to see more family and some long-loved friends. She's feeling more and more at home in Coronado, but still feels that there's much to do before we're settled. Once settled, she hopes to restart her massage therapy business. I have to be the weekly practice "dummy." Not a bad deal at all.
