Link Program Interaction Opportunities

 

The initial notice described the Link in the Chain Program.  This notice lists the activities that have been carried out previously and currently make up the overall program.  Our participation in any event will be determined by classmate interest and support.

 

4th Class Year

1. Reef Points input: provide a brief description of the class of 59 achievements.

2. Induction Day: attend a picnic and display a 59-09 banner while meeting the new plebes (unlimited number of people - wives included).  Attend the induction ceremony with seating in a VIP area (about 20 people - wives included).

3. Mid Summer P-rade: provide reviewing officer (1) and attend P-rade and a VIP reception (about 20 people - wives included).

4. Late Summer: provide speaker (1) for an Honors Program Indoctrination.

5. Parents weekend: attend P-rade (about 20 people - wives included). Provide speaker (1) for Oath Reaffirmation Ceremony.

6. Late Summer or Parents weekend: provide speaker (1) for a Regimental dinner; attend the dinner (about 20 classmates).

7. Pre graduation week - Sea Trials/Herndon ceremony: observe and attend reception (about 20 people - wives included).

 

3rd Class Year

1. Observe YP return from cruise.  Possibility exists to board YP's for transit to pier (unlimited number of classmates).

2. Attend end of year picnic (unlimited number of people - wives included).

 

2nd Class Year

1. Commitment dinner: provide speaker (1).

2. Ring Dance: attend (unlimited number of people - wives included).

 

1st Class Year

1. Alumni House receptions: attend six - one event per battalion (about 20 people per event - wives included); some participants may be asked to speak briefly.

2. Graduation picnic: attend (unlimited number of people - wives inlcuded).

3. Color P-rade: attend (about 10 people - wives included).

4. Graduation: attend pre-brief and be introduced to seniors (about 6-8 classmates); present bars to graduates during ceremony (same 6-8 classmates); attend ceremony and sit in VIP area (about 30 people - wives included).

 

Post graduation: present bars at late graduation ceremonies in August and December (1 or 2 classmates).

 

We are close to having the required funds to meet the 4th class year expenses, but additional funds are still needed.  Those who want to assist in the finances may make a tax deductible contribution to the Association of the Class of 1959 sent to our treasurer Dave Osborn, 24 Wardour Drive, Annapolis, Md 21401.  In the next notice we will begin firming our plebe year activities and identifying speakers and attendees.
