Revised 01/25/2000
The General Guidelines are a compilation of specific guidelines and operating procedures which have evolved over four years. In early 1996, John Roberts (1st Co.), suggested that guidelines be established governing the use of the class LISTSERVE. The following is largely the result of his initiative. Ideas or suggestions for inclusion will be welcome as the General Guidelines are further adapted to the USNA 55 Web site.
In January 2000 a special section was added to the class Web site. This section publishes LISTSERV Stories gathered from the class LISTSERV. These are exchanges on various topics such as 2/C Summer Cruise. Specific Guidelines for publishing these stories are on a separate page.
Welcome to the "USNA 1955 Web site". We're glad to have you aboard, and we hope you enjoy communicating on the Web and will take an active roll in contributing content to this site.
The General Guidelines are intended to provide control of the Web site content, and to maximize enjoyment of the site for all classmates.
The Web site of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1955 is a service of the Class of 55 started in March 1997. It is an all-volunteer Web site. It is technically known as a Web site, and the main pages reside on a host computer of the USNA Alumni Association. Overflow files reside on America Online computers. Norman Palladino (24th Co.) is the holder of the AOL server space where the overflow files reside. He is contributing this space with no restrictions.
SITE USAGE. The Web site is accessible to anyone having a computer, a modem and appropriate browser software such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Please pass the word to classmates and their families. The more 55'ers, the merrier. But let's keep this as a private, non-commercial site for the enjoyment of the Class of 1955 and their families.
HOW DO I ADD CONTENT TO THE SITE? A Web site class committee was established. This committee has the authority to publish to the Web what they deem appropriate content and interest. Anyone wanting to publish content to this site should send material to
and he will see that the committee receives it for consideration.
COMMITTEE: The current committee is Ad Hoc and was established to act until an official committee can be designated. The Ad Hoc committee presently has nine members: John Roberts, Norm Palladino, Carl Strang , Guy Grafius, Pat Taylor, Jack Tallman, Steve Kaiser, Bob Irons and Joe Clarkson.
SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS. Links on the home page MAIN MENU allow submitting or posting any suggestions or comments and viewing the comments of others. Classmates are encouraged to actively participate. A Web page quickly loses interest if it is not kept current with new material. The nature of the Web is very visual and interactive. Changes and additions to content are very easily made. Anything considered inappropriate is just as easily removed.
COMMERCIALISM. This site is not a place to advertise personal products, goods, and services. An occasional "plug" for yourself, is welcome, providing it is done in good taste. In the future, links may be added to sites that sell official USNA products.
CONTENT FORMAT. From time to time, the format of this site may change as the content and technology change.
ROSTERS. From time to time, the committee may publish lists of classmates as appropriate by company, Service Branch served in or otherwise. These will always be in alphabetical order(see note at bottom) without regard to rank achieved or other status, with company number and Service Branch only. Email and regular addresses and phone numbers will not be published on this Web site, though it may be necessary from time to time to include some for specific purposes. These will always be on a second or third level and voluntary.
OTHER NAVAL ACADEMY INTERNET RESOURCES. For other news and information about our alma mater, you might wish to tap into the "Other Web Sites" section of our site. Suggestions are solicited for listing interesting Web sites, Listservs, newsgroups, etc.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS. Without the initiative of John Roberts (01) and Norman Palladino (24) in creating this document, and aggressively pursuing the concept of a USNA 55 Web site , the class would not now be enjoying one more dimension of the exploding electronic communications world. Other leaders who have contributed to the Web site are: Pat C. Taylor, Steve Kaiser, Guy Grafius, Carl Strang, Bob Irons, Jack Tallman, Joe Clarkson and Steve Ruth.
Some of these may have worked longer and harder to bring this concept to reality and we all want to acknowledge that fact. If someone has been overlooked please bring it to the attention of any of the above.
We're glad to have you aboard,
USNA 55 Web Site Committee
Note: The "In Memoriam" section of this site lists deceased classmates by four methods including date of death.
