I am concerned about the legal aspects as it pertains to you, Norm P, in the event it is accessed and used by others in a manner that someone not on the net might misconstrue. Let the Alumni Association take the risk. We can get it there if we want it. I believe this is the same data that comes out in the Register of Alumni each year, without perhaps the e-mail address. My latest, 1995 would be pre e-mail. Also Spouse is not in my 95 edition. However, BZ for the effort and the idea.

Webmaster Note: The database comes from the USNA and not the USNAAA.

Norm: I'm still unsure about getting a lot of spam/ telemarketing nausea if the database is used by marketeers. However, I'd like to have the Excel database. You could offer that as an attachment via the listserv. Meanwhile, I don't think we should open our private parts to the World Wide Web.

Are all 55 members in the Alumni data base? Some, like me, may not be members of the Association.

Webmaster Note: The database comes from the USNA and not the USNAAA. I sent Jim a copy of info.

I do not like the idea of phone numbers and eMail addresses being available at the web site or for download for several reasons. First, there is the problem of maintaining this information current particularly the eMail addresses as people do change ISP's. Second, my phone number is unlisted because I like it that way but I still get calls for salesmen etc. Third, I get too much junk eMail now. If you feel you really have to include the data base for our class then I would hope that you can do it so that it can only be accessed by our classmates.

Webmaster Note: The database comes from the USNA and not the USNAAA and a password protect can be added to limit access.

I am not concerned about privacy issues if search engines are stopped by html code. That would stop most of it.

Restrict or block access by search and mail robots..or I would vote "No"..P.S. How 694? My transcript shows 742..shouldn't we keep track of dead, widows, etc.?
Webmaster Note: 742 is correct for those who graduated. But this list includes non-grads and excludes about 24 unaccoutables.

Norm, I would prefer having the file available for downloading, preferably in HTML as I doubt I would be able to open the Excel file on my iMac, I don't have the latest translators.

Pat Taylor voted Jun 5, 2000.

I like the idea of an Excel file and the capability to view it, once downloaded, in offline status. Is it necessary to include all 13 columns of the Alum database??? (My copy of the Alum data base...12 columns...suggests that we could dispense with column 3/middle name; column 5/Grad-NonGrad status;and -column 6/spouse.) With the list password protected, the average curious George isn't going to gain access, right?
Webmaster Note: Yes to all.
