Through the initiative of our Class President, Denny Sullivan, a Class letter was sent out in March/April to widows of ’55 Classmates informing them of recent changes in the military medical system and to update them on future Class activities. "The Class of 1955 wants you to know that you are welcome and we would like to encourage you to join in, as you might wish, for any of these activities." Dick Peterson is our POC.

Hartley Holte’s latest status report on the 50 Year Book follows:

With this status update, we are pleased to be able to tell you now that Cal Weaver is our 50 Year Book business manager and Kent Drummond is our editor! We consider that the experience and talents of these two gentlemen plus the "guiding hand of Tom McIsaac" will prove to be key linchpins in ensuring an enduring, quality product. We are continuing to solicit volunteers for selected bite-sized research, organizing, and writing tasks. We encourage Classmates, who may have the time, inclination, and perhaps some specific thoughts to be incorporated, to contact one of us by phone, email, or mail. Some specific areas in which we still would like help include air force and marine ground and aviation, plus post-military major careers.
Fred McLaren writes:
I recently returned from lecturing on a Cunard cruise from Valparaiso to Rio de Janiero. I will be returning this coming summer to dive, using the Russian deep-diving MIR submersibles, on the German battleship BISMARCK (16,000 feet beneath the sea) and at several different hydrothermal vent locations along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (only 6,000 to 8,000 feet beneath the sea). Next year our plans are to spend a month in the Sea of Cortez and finally do the North Pole and Gakkel Ridge dives with National Geographic support. Finally, I have just been re-elected to serve on the board of directors of the nearly 100 year old Explorers Club headquartered in New York. I would be most happy, incidentally, to tour any Classmates who might come to town through the Club. It is one of the great museums of and has one of the most extensive libraries on exploration.

A recent Kronzer family wedding was the occasion for two Classmates, Joe Kronzer and Bill Martin, to get-together. The marriage of Bill and Lynda Kronzer’s son, Matthew, in September of last year brought them together. Bill Kronzer ’57 is Joe’s brother and Bill Martin is married to Joe’s sister, Cathy. Also attending were Carol and Tom Andrews ’57. Joe and Carole Kronzer are retired and live on Lake Anna in Virginia. Bill and Cathy Martin live on the lake in Hot Springs Village, AR. They will all do it again in August when Bill and Lynda’s daughter, Meghan, gets married.

Congratulations to Ernst Volgenau! His company, SRA International, has been selected by Fortune Magazine as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" for a third consecutive year. It was recently announced that SRA intends to go public in the near future—selling shares to the public and taking advantage of the expected growth in the federal defense contracting sector.

I received word from Oregon that John DeZell is alive and well. As a former USNA Midshipman, he recently attended a celebration honoring the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States Military Academy, and submitted an article to the local newspaper to that effect. Also, he is in the not-yet-released motion picture, "The Hunted," starring Tommy Lee Jones. John plays the part of a Kosovar refuge.

I regret to inform the Class that Bob Hammond (01), died 25 March, in San Clemente, CA. Bob had been in poor health for some years, and a combination of heart and respiratory conditions was the cause of death. His wife, Grace, asks that anyone wishing to contribute in Bob’s name do it privately and wherever one feels it might do some good. Grace resides at 3919 Calle Real, San Clemente, CA 92672; 949-248-1210. Chuck Henry (01) passed away on 30 March at home in San Diego. He fought a gallant battle with his illness over the last few months. His wife, Grace, asks that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory, consider a donation to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103. Grace resides at 12013 Tretagnier Circle, San Diego, CA 92128; 619 675-8059. With a sad heart, Sid Woodcock reported that his wife, Connie, died peacefully in her sleep on 29 January. She was finally diagnosed with CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) which strikes one in a million people worldwide, has no cure and is always fatal within the first year after onset. Sid can be reached at 2805 Dartmouth Drive, Lancaster, CA.
