Also the 1996 Register indicates 743 midshipmen graduated and records the names of 324 non-graduates for a total of 1067 classmates. Whether this is a good count or not depends on how you feel "turn backs" should be handled. Consider the First Company-- An old, First Company roster used to record our class crest orders plebe year shows the company started out with 45 plebes. Eleven of the original 45 did not graduate with the class. The company picked up one turn back from the class of 1954 (or lateral transfer from another company.) Three of the eleven turned back to the class of 1956 and therefore do not appear in the non-graduate list for 1955 (as do the remaining eight.) One of the three graduated with the class of 1956 but considers himself to be a member of the class of 1955. The other two are listed as non-graduates of the class of 1956 and includes one whose graduation picture appears in the 1955 Lucky Bag. That is, he was "turned back" during firstclass year near graduation (actually during June Week) and may have resigned before the 1956 school year started. What was the experience in your company?
