United States Naval Academy Class of 1955

         Subject:  Fifty-year Class Yearbook

         Dear Classmate:

We are getting the ball rolling on producing a publication to commemorate our 50th reunion in
2005. Because technologies have changed so rapidly, a publication today can take many forms.
For example, through the Internet and computer networks, many more of us can exchange
information and participate in contributing to the class history.

How should we feature our class and are you willing to take part?

We have an opportunity of producing a class history book worthy of passing along to our children
and grandchildren. So many of our classmates have unselfishly taken part in so many different
contributions to our class and to others. Furthermore, some have gained world renown and
         notoriety.

As you are aware, we started together at the Academy, endured difficulties, enjoyed successes,
and worked hard for four years. Then we scattered on graduation day to the four winds. So as a
class 50 years later, we propose to record what we have done to make our history unique and
         worth writing about.

We have four fifty-year history book volunteers who are debating alternative concepts for goals
and content. We have reviewed the approaches and contents of several other USNA class
histories and our own class’ 15-year and 30-year books. We want to incorporate many of the
         features in these publications.

More importantlv. we want YOUR input on the list of items included on the attachment (page 2).

          1.  Please give us your ideas. We desperately need your help to research, organize and find
material. (Please send the completed form and your ideas to me at the above address or to
            my email address: hartleyholte@hotmail.com)
          2.  We ask for your help in locating classmates who we have lost track.
          3.  Check the topics on the attachment that you feel are appropriate for the history book.
          4.  Add items that you believe are important.
          5.  Send contributions that you already have.
          6.  Volunteer if you can as a company representative, researcher, or writer.
          7.  Send your response no later than July 31, 2002. Include your email address, home address,
            and telephone number.

         Sincerely,

         Hartley Holte, Chairman
