Final Briefing
for the Class of 2005
| Commissioning
Week 2005 All 1/C midshipmen were requested to report to Alumni Hall on Wednesday, 18 May 2005 for a final briefing before their final departure from the Naval Academy. The Class of 2005 heard final comments on what they have worked so hard for these past four years – Graduation! Dean Halbig and several Naval Academy staff members told the midshipmen, where to be, where to pick up tickets and other miscellaneous information. George P. Watt Jr., president and CEO of the USNA Alumni Association and Foundation also had an opportunity to speak to the midshipmen and welcome them to the Alumni Association – as a member of the "extended brigade". During the brief, the midshipmen were introduced to members from the Class of 1955: LtCol John A. Adams, USMC (Ret.), VADM John A. Baldwin, Jr., USN (Ret.), CAPT Raymond W. Hine, USN (Ret.), CAPT Thomas G. Kiefaber, USN (Ret), VADM Henry C. Mustin, USN (Ret), VADM J.T. Parker Jr., USN (Ret.), The Honorable Robert B. Pirie, Jr., RADM Donald L. Sturtz, MC, USN (Ret.), who 50 years ago were getting ready to graduate, had an opportunity to address the group. These eight representatives of the Class of 1955 were chosen by their classmates to personally present gold ENS/2ndLt bars (engraved with 1955-2005) on graduation day. Upon leaving Alumni Hall, the midshipmen were handed their Life Member packets by the staff members from the Alumni Association. |

| The Class of 2005 is the first USNA class to have another class’ numerals on its crest - 55 - to acknowledge this unique but strong bond between the generations. The Class of 2005’s motto, “Ambulare Cum Honore” which translates to, walk with honor, was also the Class of 1955’s motto and appears on its class rings. ![]() |
