Lieutenant Donald Bowers III '12, USN

Lieutenant Donald Bowers III is currently a student in the Surface Warfare Officer Department Head Course at the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI. LT Bowers was born in Houston, Texas where he spent most of his childhood. He and his family moved to Pearland, Texas, shortly before he started high school. He graduated from Pearland High School in the class of 2008. He commissioned from the United States Naval Academy and earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Political Science with a concentration in American Politics and Law in May 2012. LT Bowers served in USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52) from August 2012 until August 2017. During his first sea duty he served as the Electronic Warfare Officer and Auxiliaries Officer. He was later selected to fleet up as the Training Officer for his second division officer tour. During his time onboard he deployed for ten months to the Western Pacific and the Arabian Gulf conducting combat operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. 

Following his division officer tours, LT Bowers served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C. as the Flag Aide to the Deputy CNO for Operations, Plans and Strategy (OPNAV N3/N5) from September 2017 until July 2018. After completion of his tour on OPNAV Staff LT Bowers was selected to serve as Flag Aide to Commander, U.S. Second Fleet/Commander, NATO Joint Forces Command Norfolk from August 2018 until December 2019. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various service and unit awards.
