The Southeastern Pennsylvania Parents Association (SPPA) extends a very warm welcome to all families and friends of incoming Midshipmen. This club was formed by a group of parents, who recognized the need for a support system for USNA families. The same camaraderie that helps our Mids succeed at the Academy, works well for parents who are trying to understand their role in the process.
SPPA is one of 80 parent's clubs recognized by the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and the Naval Academy Foundation. It is a non-profit organization of parents of U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen, along with parents of USNA Graduates, uniting for support, information, and social activities. Since its inception in 1990, we have grown into one of the most active parents' associations in the country, with over 100 member families in the greater Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania area. The parental task of helping, guiding, feeding, and inspiring a son/daughter attending the U.S. Naval Academy is different from a civilian college. Those that haven't been there sometimes don't understand how different. USNA Parent Clubs have been instrumental in facilitating parents help parents during their sons and daughter's "four years by the bay"; from preparing for I-Day, managing the withdrawals of Plebe Summer, Summer block training, and all the way through the planning celebrations for Commissioning.
