LEGAL ADVICE

If your Mid is over 18, they should have

·        A Will

·        A Durable Power of Attorney

·        A Living Will

·        A Health Care Proxy or Directive

They are adults and may have significant assets and financial or health issues.  Without pre-planning, if something untoward should happen, the alternative would be costly court proceedings leaving the Court, not the family, in control.  With HIPPA regulations, you might not be able to get the information you need from the doctor/hospital without this pre-planning.

These documents are fairly simple to prepare and easy to execute.  An attorney should be able to do the whole set of documents for a reasonable fee.  Your Mid may even be able to get help at the legal office in Bancroft.
