ANNAPOLIS BUS TRIP The bus trip sponsored by our club on Saturday March 29 2008 went extremely well! We hosted 66 parents and perspective applicants from a 10 county area and had beautiful weather-it was a privilege to be in Annapolis on Saturday.
We had an outstanding admissions brief from USN LT John Meise, Northeast Region Admissions Director, a wonderful lunch in King Hall, and were then treated to an outstanding tour of the Yard by a superior cadre of midshipmen. Many thanks to Midshipmen Robert Innerst, Albert Varela, Shannon Reese, Christina Rejent, Joey Innerst, Nathan Stump, Matthew Shaw, and Granger Benson. We will be sending a letter through the Superintendent's office to document their superb efforts. The parents and students were extremely impressed with the tour and the entire day, and we will probably have some future midshipmen on that bus. Captain Gary LaBuda, Blue and Gold Officer for the Lancaster area, accompanied us and added great insight relating to the admissions process and had some personal stories as a 1979 USNA graduate.
This was also an outstanding fundraiser for our club. We will have the final report at our 6 April meeting. As always, it was a privilege to work with Roy Oskutis, who expertly coordinated the brief, parking and security arrangements, King Hall, and was a picture of motivation and zeal throughout the entire day (there wasn't even any beer involved). |

Three Cheers Luncheon Scheduled to Honor Class of 2008
Mark your calendar for Sunday, May 18, 2008 and plan to attend the Central PA Parents’ Club annual Three Cheers Luncheon. This Luncheon is a celebration in honor of the members of the Naval Academy Class of 2008 who are from Central Pennsylvania. The luncheon will take place at the Officers’ & Faculty Club on the Naval Academy and is scheduled to begin at 12:30 P.M.
First-class midshipmen from Central Pennsylvania are invited to attend as guests of the Central PA Parents Club. A short program to honor the graduates follows brunch with a brief biography of each graduating midshipman being presented by the Master of Ceremonies.
Central PA Parents’ Club Members and their guests may attend the luncheon at the cost of $35.00 per person. Non-members of the club may attend at the cost of $42.00 per person.
It is the tradition of the Parents’ Club to present each graduating midshipman with a United States Flag that has flown over the nation’s Capitol along with an official certificate commemorating his or her graduation and commissioning and attesting to the time and date the flag was flown. Also, the club presents each Firstie with a silver dollar from the year 2008 to keep as well as a silver dollar to present to the first person that salutes them.
Parents of Firsties have already been sent a letter requesting a biography of the Firstie to be presented at the luncheon. See the linked invitation and response form . Responses are requested no later that May 5th. |
