The USNA Central Pa Parents Club has secured a block of 25 rooms for Friday, December 5, 2008 and a block of 30 rooms for Saturday, December 6, 2008 for Army/Navy game weekend. Checkout for those staying the entire weekend would be Sunday, December 7, 2008. Each individual family is responsible for making their reservations and payment, and I would suggest as soon as possible. The rooms tend to fill up fast. The “cut-off date” for accepting reservations into this room block is Friday, Nov 14, 2008.

The entire hotel has been renovated this past year. The Parents Club will be reserving a room for Saturday night to have the small informal after game “Tail Gate Party.” We cannot get the same area for the party we had the last time we were there, as the policy has changed.

The Sheraton representative is excited to have us back again. The room rates are $190.00 a night. The hotel’s policy for cancelation applies to all reservations. When making the reservations make sure to tell them you are with the USNA Central Pa Parents Club.

Linked is a reservation sheet with all the details. You can either call or fax the sheet to them.

Hope to see all of you there,

Don Stewart

Three Cheers Luncheon

Scheduled to Honor Class of 2008

Mark your calendar for Sunday, May 18, 2008 and plan to attend the Central PA Parents’ Club annual Three Cheers Luncheon. This Luncheon is a celebration in honor of the members of the Naval Academy Class of 2008 who are from Central Pennsylvania. The luncheon will take place at the Officers’ & Faculty Club on the Naval Academy and is scheduled to begin at 12:30 P.M.

First-class midshipmen from Central Pennsylvania are invited to attend as guests of the Central PA Parents Club. A short program to honor the graduates follows brunch with a brief biography of each graduating midshipman being presented by the Master of Ceremonies.

Central PA Parents’ Club Members and their guests may attend the luncheon at the cost of $35.00 per person. Non-members of the club may attend at the cost of $42.00 per person.

It is the tradition of the Parents’ Club to present each graduating midshipman with a United States Flag that has flown over the nation’s Capitol along with an official certificate commemorating his or her graduation and commissioning and attesting to the time and date the flag was flown. Also, the club presents each Firstie with a silver dollar from the year 2008 to keep as well as a silver dollar to present to the first person that salutes them.

Parents of Firsties have already been sent a letter requesting a biography of the Firstie to be presented at the luncheon. See the linked invitation and response form .  Responses are requested no later that May 5th.

Text Box: Herndon Climb for the Class of 2011

Proud dad here. You may be recognizing one of CPPC's own Midshipmen on the afternoon's news wires and web pages coming out of Annapolis. This despite the fact that at least one source has incorrectly called him "Paul."

Fueled by a desire to honor his tragically deceased Plebe friend Kristen Dickmann, encouraged by the Plebes of 11th Company, and with the combined help and strength of nearly 1,000 members of USNA Class of 2011, Gregory Reichel reportedly announced, "It's game time!" This renewed determination was summoned after more than two and a half hours of futile struggle by the Plebes to conquer the Herndon obelisk.

Greg then proceeded to climb the cooled-off and more carefully re-grouped tiers of Plebes wrapped elbow-in-locked elbow around Herndon. Greg slipped and toppled to the bottom. He got back up. Cheered by his fellow Plebes, Greg re-climbed the greasy, tired, and wet arms, shoulders, and heads of his fellow Plebes. He picked his way level-to-higher level and stretched out his lanky frame to grasp the firmly affixed Dixie Cup for the time in dozens of prior attempts. Greg struggled to extract Kristen's well taped and copiously greased Dixie Cup from way atop the Herndon monument. The Plebe crew's fading energy was revived by the roar of the crowd signaling completion of this first part of their ceremonial struggle.

Greg's attempt to replace the Dixie cup with a Combo (female) cover, failed as the tiring tiers of Plebes had begin to sag and Greg's reach was no longer enough to prevent the cover from toppling. This resulted in yet another tumble by Greg all the way down the tower of Plebes to the ground.

Amazingly, from the crowd of yet-determined Plebes, Greg's glistening and freshly shaven spirit-dome re-appeared among the mostly shirtless Plebes.
Groping his way to the top of the human structure with his long, straining limbs, Greg re-commenced his slippery summit quest with the encouragement of the throng. The tiers of teeth-gritting Plebes remained in their determined places and amazingly held tight.

With only three stacked tiers of Plebes supporting Greg's lone and final reach, he removed the replacement Combo Cover transported up on his own bald head and stretched out with every fiber of his 6' 6" body to carefully inch the symbol of their physical and academic success onto its triumphant place at the apex of Herndon.

Plebes No More! It was an awesome moment!

Pictures from today's Herndon Climb are now posted.
