Email and Snail Mail Addresses
Send your US Postal Mail to:
M/C (Name of Candidate)
Company -- Platoon --
Naval Academy Prep School
197 Elliot St, Wing 1
Newport, RI 02841-1519
If you don't have your M/C's email address, just send mail to your student
without the company and platoon numbers. It will get through but it will be
slower. The email address of M/C's is the first 4 letters of their last name,
the Company number, the Platoon number and then two random numbers. They will
have this address all year. Don't expect long daily messages. Emails tend to
be short and quick. They are a wonderful way to stay in touch though, so use
it! NAPS can't give you their alpha code for the email address, so don't ask.
Just wait for your student to send you a note first. Then you will have their
return email address.
Okay, here's the email and computer regulations in a nutshell. They do have acces to the web. They can't use the CD roms on their computers. Only the technicians can access them to upload programs. They can't plug in anything like speakers or web cams or earphones. You can send small attachments but they can not be zipped because they will not have the ability to unzip anything. All emails needs to be below 1.75 megabytes in size. This includes attachments. So you can send a photo but make it a small jpg file. If you need to send more photos, attach each one to a separate email! Otherwise the system will reject the email altogether. Don't worry about size if you are just sending text. Text files are tiny and you would have to write hundreds of pages to go over the limit.
Buy your student a digital camera for Christmas if they don't already have
one. There are computers in the common areas that can do photo downloads off
the cameras. You might get pictures of their lives if they have access to a
digital camera. One year half the battalion was on restriction for not turning
their room computers off when they went away for an all day outing. So remind
them to turn off their computers when they leave.
