Decommissioning of USS DOLPHIN (AGSS-555).

September 22, 2006

Mary DiPrisco, the widow of John McDonnell and sister of Charlie Edson, came to San Diego from Naples, FL for the decommissioning of USS DOLPHIN (AGSS-555) on 22 September 2006.  John McDonnell was the first Commanding Officer of DOLPHIN some thirty-eight years ago.  Mary was Ned and Lynne Floyd's house guest while visiting San Diego.

DOLPHIN was the Navy's deep diving submarine and had conducted many oceanographic, acoustic and physics research experiments and testing and development of undersea systems.  As retirement of the diesel-powered DOLPHIN brought the diesel era of submarining in the U. S. Navy to a close.  BRAVO ZULU to molecular submarines!  We remain in good hands with nuclear submarines.
