Dolphins and Whales
March 2006
Steve Kaiser is shown here kissing a dolphin at at Discovery Cove,
Orlando SeaWorld's sister park. Getting up close and personal with
animals has nothing to do with luck. Every guest is guaranteed hang
time with dolphins, stingrays, exotic birds and other creatures.
From your
Webmaster: A few weeks ago my wife and I went on a 3 1/2
hour whale watching cruise around the Channel Islands off the coast of
Oxnard and Ventura. Channel Islands National Park, for those unfamiliar
with this area, is composed of the islands of San Miguel,
Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa, and Santa Barbara. Visitors to the
park may enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities, such as SCUBA
diving, snorkeling, swimming, bird watching, kayaking, whale watching,
and sailing. On the islands, one may camp, hike, picnic, and explore
tide pools, isolated beaches, and rugged canyons. The map shows this
island group.

We did not see any whales though we saw plenty of dolphins, sea lions,
seals, pelicans, etc. The photo below shows Anacapa Island as we
rounded it to get on the ocean side. The birds are Cormorants.
As an Air Force pilot stationed at Edwards AFB from 1962
through 1965, I used to fly to San Nicolas Island and land on a Navy
strip. We tested beryllium solid fuel rocket motors there.
