Charlie Plumly Tackles Appalachian Trail Again
(Pictures & report by Dan Butterfield)
Charlie Plumly stopped at Dan and Rita Butterfield's home on Lake Monocan
in Stoney Creek of the Wintergreen Resort in Central Virginia before heading
off on his 2002 attack of the Virginia portion of the Appalachian Trail. Charlie
is taking on a 100 miles trek from Front Royal to Waynesboro in the next
10 days, 6/18 - 6/28. The Butters will drive him to the Front Royal trail
head in the morning. The local 55ers and wives joined them to give Plum a
proper sendoff, including inspecting his backpack and presenting him with
a proper hiking staff. Joining the sendoff were Jack and Joan McNish, Joe
and Pat Dunn, and Jack and Donna Renard. The pictures below tell the tale.
Needless to say, in such a raucous group Plum barely survived the story telling
and laughter. We hope he gets a good night's sleep and then recovers on the
trail.
