Induction Day

Tony - I think induction day in our time is the same as a "senior moment."  I do not remember it at all.  I do remember shining shoes, though.  As a matter of fact, my mouth waters even today when I shine shoes though I have not done spit shines
since perhaps 1955.  I don't even remember the name induction day.  Was it called that?  Or was it "swearing in?" That might have been it.

A small contingent of classmates attended the Swearing-In Ceremony for the
Class of 2005 during Induction Day yesterday.  We were welcomed, informally,
by the Commandant of Midshipmen, RADM Sam Locklear III USN and George Watt,
the President of the Alumni Association.  It was a solemn but heartwarming
ceremony (complete with F-18 formation fly-over) and brought back many
memories of some of the same challenges that we faced 50 years ago.  Some of
us took the opportunity afterwards to personally congratulate a number of new
plebes who were unaccompanied.

John,

I don't remember any day that plebe summer fifty years ago that was devoted to 'just' 'one' 'thing' !  'Course there's lots I don't remember anymore.

Tom,

I know you went primarily for the goodies, (food, chips, dip, etc.) but I sincerely hope
you hugged one of those POOR plebes for me.

No, on second thought, I hope you did not.
