49 Years Later

May 21-22, 2004

Joe and Pat Dunn hosted a gala event surrounding the visit of two '55 classmates {Mal MacKinnon (14) and Joe's 16th company-mate, Tommy Cann, both with their OAO's, Roz MacKinnon and Shirley Echard} to their home in Stoney Creek Village.

Stoney Creek Village is located in Central Virginia, 30 miles south of Charlottesville, within the Wintergreen Golf, Tennis, and Ski Resort. For the festivities they were joined by the other '55ers living there, Jack and Donna Renard, Jack and Joan McNish, Dan and Rita Butterfield, and two '55ers who came down from Charlottesville, Gail and Tom Emery and Betty and Tony "Stog" Hastoglis. As the many photos posted here may not fully attest a "wild and crazy" time was had by all. The most hilarious event was when Shirley volunteered to attempt directing arranging all 16 for a photo opportunity in the Dunn's livingroom. Impossible! There is a video taken of this extraordinarily brave and gut-wrenchingly laughable incident (wish we could also make the video available on our website).

A note on Shirley Echard: She is the widow of our classmate, Dick Echard, who was tragically killed in an auto accident in '64. Shirley did not remarry, but pursued a career in music achieving a Doctorate in Music from Catholic University in D.C.  She is the official organist of the Ft. Myer Chapel and has taught music extensively during these past 40 years. Let us hope that Tommy and Shirley might find a future together. Tommy lost his wife quite suddenly last year.
