June 5th Chapter Dinner

Our Chapter’s annual June Dinner, for alumni, spouses, guests, and USNA Parents’ Club members, was held this year at La Colombe d’Or.

CDR Kevin Haney ’81 USN (Ret) was our Guest of Honor and keynote speaker.  He is the Class of 1971 Distinguished Military Professor of Leadership.  A former F-14 pilot, CDR Haney flew over 2,800 tactical hours and made over 850 carrier landings.  He graduated from TOP GUN in 1988 and flew combat missions during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  CDR Haney will tell us how USNA takes today’s generation and turns them into tomorrow’s leaders

We had a number of ceremonial toasts … to the Commander-In-Chief (Jake Dulle '01), to our country (Buddy Welborn ’59),  to the Navy (Marty Block ‘64), to the Marine Corps (Rick Mawdsley BGO in honor of his son Capt Andrew Mawdsley '05, USMC, serving in Iraq and expecting his first child in October) … to the Naval Academy and the Brigade of Midshipmen (2ndLt Sam Long '09, USMC) … and to the dates and spouses (Zeb Alford ‘48).

CDR Haney spoke about his navy experiences, today’s Midshipmen, and the ongoing challenges in developing leaders and combat warriors.  Afterward, our Chapter presented CDR Haney with a Texas belt buckle.
