NAS JRB
1. Chairman, Phil Katauskas called meeting to order.
2. Recited Pledge of Allegiance and observed moment of
silence in hour of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their
country.
3. Sounded off and circulated muster sign-in.
4. The minutes for the 27March2007 were approved as
submitted by Phil Cahill.
5. Treasurer's Report & Budget: Brian Degnan,
Treasurer, was not in attendance. Kerr Smith summarized his recent conversation
with Brian who reported no material changes in financial status of the chapter.
6. Membership Report & PA License plates: Tim
Farrell (76), VP Membership, was not in attendance. Kerr Smith reported that
Tim and Tony Sanchez are developing a plan to contact alumni in the area who
have not paid their dues and get them signed on. A significant objective of this effort is to
increase our membership so that the chapter is restored to its “Major Chapter”
status.
7. WPS Monthly Networking Lunch, 11:30am, Charthouse @
Penn's Landing, 1st Wednesday of the month : Kerr Smith received an email from
Tim Farrell who attended the April luncheon which had Patrick Meehan, U. S.
Attorney Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Next luncheon will have Capt
Remington, CO NAS JRB Willow Grove.
8. Army / N*AVY Golf, 05/12/07: Kerr Smith (72) reported
that event was blessed with beautiful weather. Turnout was modest, about six
foursomes participated.
9. Parents Night, 05/09/07: Rob Bender (73) was not in
attendance. Kerr Smith, Corky Gardner, Jim Ounsworth, and Steve Chadwick
reported on the event which drew 200+ attendees.
10. Camden River Sharks game, Thurs, 06/21/07: Tim
Farrell (76) was not in attendance. Kerr Smith will issue a chapter-wide email
blast to help drum up attendance for this event.
11. Navy @ Temple Football Tailgate, Fri, 08/31/07: Skip
Dittmann (67) & Cal Quinn (97) were not in attendance. Steve Chadwick and
Kerr Smith have talked with USNAA staff in
12. Founder's Day Dinner, Thurs, 10/11/07: Phil Katauskas
(68) reported that Gen Mike Hagee, USMC, Ret., (68) and, until recently,
Commandant of the Marine Corps, has agreed to be our featured speaker for this
event.
13. A recommendation was made by Corky Gardner (77) to
re-name the Shipmate of the Year Award: Byerly (1921) - Manion (2004) Shipmate
of the Year Award. Discussion followed on this matter. A motion was made to accept the
recommendation. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote.
14. Army (NJ Chapter) - Navy (Phila. Chapter) Comcast
Golf Contest. Kerr Smith (72) proposed that the Chapter support this event by
paying $200 for each Navy golfer participating. The cost per golfer is $400, so
the Chapter would be paying half, and the golfer half. Eight Navy golfers will face off against
eight Army Golfers in the event. The event will be taped and then televised on
Comcast Sports Net every night of the week leading up to the Army-Navy football
game. Comcast will give recognition to
the respective institutions as well as their respective alumni associations. A
motion was offered to support this event as proposed. The motion was seconded
and approved by unanimous voice vote.
15. Paul James (81) proposed that the Chapter contribute
$1,000 towards a retirement dinner for outgoing Blue & Gold officer, Don
Mcrae. Discussion followed and opinion was expressed that the proper forum to
do this is the Annual Parents’ Night event. A motion to approve holding this
retirement ceremony was tabled.
16. Replacement for Phil Cahill (70) Secy. / Recorder
& VP Info. Tech. Kerr Smith (72) will continue to solicit replacements for
the very able Phil Cahill who will be starting a two-year assignment in the
17. Next BOD Meeting, Date & Location: The next Board
Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 12
September 2007, at 1830 at Baggataways, Conshohocken.
18. A motion was made to Adjourn and “Navy Blue &
Gold” was sung.
