Philadelphia Chapter BOD Meeting Minutes

27 March 2007

NAS JRB Willow Grove Orion Club

1.      Chairman calls meeting to order

2.      Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer for our Armed Forces

3.      Sound Off and Sign Muster

4.      The minutes from the Board of Directors Meeting of 31 January 2007 were read and approved.  Kerr Smith reported no change with regard to the opportunity the Philadelphia Chapter has to compete against our USMA counterparts on COMCAST (to be aired prior to the Army-N*AVY Football Game).  To date, Army has refused to step up to the challenge, and Kerr is exploring options with COMCAST.

5.      Corky Gardner made the Treasurer’s Report for Brian Degnan.  We have $21,859 in our Checking Account, and $13,607 in the Byerly Endowment Fund.

6.      Tim Farrell reported on the need to get a membership drive in high gear.  He intends to download a listing of potential members and distribute the names among the Board, to facilitate a personal contact.  Skip Dittmann suggested that, where possible, classmates be used to contact classmates.

7.      Various members reported on upcoming or past events:  CAPT Byerly service;  Congressman Sestak Nomination Ceremony;  USNA Info Day;  Army/N*AVY Golf;  Parents’ Night;  and the Camden Riversharks game.  Of special significance is the upcoming Distinguished Academy Graduate Award Ceremony for Ralph Hooper in Annapolis on 30 March 2007.

8.      Phil Katauskas has discussed with GEN Hagee USMC (Ret), the possibility of being the Guest of Honor at Founders’ Day 2007.  GEN Hagee has not yet accepted.

9.      Skip Dittmann and Cal Quinn reported on the plans in work for the Navy-Temple Football game.  The date of that event is still moving, exacerbating the difficulties in planning a tailgate.  Skip also reported on the inauguration of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on 14 April 2007.

10.  Corky Gardner announced the new Chapter Officers:  Chairman of the Board Phil Katauskas;  President Kerr Smith;  VP, Membership & Events Tim Farrell; and VP, IT and Correspondence Phil Cahill.  The turnover is scheduled for Parents’ Night 09 May 2007.

11. Our next meeting will be on 16 May 2007 at NAS JRB Willow Grove.
