Bill had joined on December 6, 1940 at 17 years old, and
served until early September 1945. He was a Gunner's Mate 2-C and spent most of
his time aboard the USS Bagley DD 386. The destroyer was docked at Pearl Harbor
for repairs the morning of December 7, 1941. Bill served in the Pacific
Campaign, including the Savo Island / Guadalcanal engagements, among others.
