LT Matt Phillips '03
Lieutenant Matthew Phillips is a native of Christiansburg, VA. He graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in 2003 with a B.S. in Computer Science. After being selected for graduate education, he graduated with merit from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2004 with a M.S. in Computer Science with a focus on Network Security.
Upon graduation from NPS, Lieutenant Phillips was assigned to USS CLEVELAND (LPD-7) as the Communications Officer. There he also served as the primary COMSEC and EKMS custodian. While onboard, he completed a deployment in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Lieutenant Phillips then attended Naval Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC. Upon graduation he qualified Nuclear Engineering Officer of the Watch onboard Nuclear Prototype Training Unit 635 in Charleston, SC. Lieutenant Phillips was then assigned to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) as the Reactor Mechanical Division Officer. While onboard, he completed an eight month deployment in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. In addition to qualifying Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, he also qualified Nuclear Engineering Officer through Naval Reactors.
Currently, Matthew is serving as 18th Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy.
He and his wife, Amy, have one son, Jackson, and reside in Arnold, MD.
