All,
For those of you not aware, the USNA Museum in Preble Hall is approaching the end of a long awaited $17 million renovation. As the exhibits are restored and begin to settle into their newly renovated surroundings, a request has come to the Annapolis chapter for help with volunteers to act as greeters in the brand new foyer and as docents for the collections.
The museum is currently scheduled to re-open in August. The hours of operation, once open, will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Mon – Fri and 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM on weekends. Scott Harmon (the Museum Director) and his staff are looking for folks to help them with manning the welcome desk and providing visitors with museum information throughout the times that the museum is open. To date, they have just over 20 committed volunteers and are looking to expand that number to the 50 – 60 range. The greeter position would be a seated position at the desk. Training will be made available to volunteers for both positions.
The USNA Museum is an educational and inspirational resource for the Brigade of Midshipmen and its collections and displays serve as a strong reminder of our country’s naval heritage. If you have a love for history – particularly Navy history, and would like to pass on your love to others, please consider volunteering.
For more information regarding these volunteer positions or to sign up as a volunteer greeter or docent, please contact Dolly Pantelides, the Museum Administrator, at dpanteli@usna.edu or call her at 410-293-5256.
Thank you for your time!
GO NAVY!
